Ok so in the interests of fairness, I have messaged the seller and this is their reply..“Hi. These crystals have been mined from the lemurian seam in Brazil. The mine itself actually only works and mines with lemurains and have done for over 20 years. There was only a very small find and has been no more found since. They are finding new crystals all the time which is really amazing. Currently these lemurians are being studied by geologists to establish the coating on them. They are thinking its a type of tourmaline but are unsure. I hope this helps. Thanks Emily”
We're going to have a whole rainbow selection of 'lemurian' crystals soon... It's madness that they can get away with sticking a name to it to make it something it's not and probably charge well over the odds for it too.
What the hell is going on in the crystal community? Between “polished lemurian”, “black lemurian”, fake malachite, misidentified sphalerite etc etc how on earth can we as a community of crystal lovers ever trust sellers again?
As you know Jami from our discussions, I can’t work out what bothers me the most. Is it unscrupulous, poorly self-educated and downright liars of sellers who are at fault or is it the customers? Are the customers the ones who are at fault because they fall into this trap of “buying a lifestyle of twinkles and fairies” by purchasing polished lemurian pieces at £500 each, is it the customers who believe that bullshit narrative of “my seller said they are ethical so I believe them with no proof whatsoever” who are at fault for perpetuating this nonsense within the crystal community. Ok rant over!
I think you raise an interesting discussion point regarding ‘buyer responsibility’. There are an awful lot of vulnerable people out there who are very easy to ‘fool’. There are also a lot of people who aren’t interested in the geological foundation of crystals and minerals, so again, are easy to ‘fool’. I can’t help but feel it is actually down to sellers to be honest. I will also say there are a lot of ‘ignorant’ sellers who will have been sold their fake named crystal but not have a clue that they’ve been fooled! They simply pass the lies on to their customers and remain blissfully unaware of the lies they’re perpetuating. But I’m sure they’ll tell their customers how ‘ethical’ they are.
I think this is exactly my point hun, if you were to buy a car, a tv, a house etc would you just blindly believe what the seller is telling you or would you actually do some research for yourself. Equally as a seller, why are you just repeating what your supplier has told you without doing some research for the benefit of your customers? The great Sphalerite selling issue is a classic example of this.
